Field Notes

Face to Face 2004

The annual Face to Face Conference will take place on October 29 and 30 this year at the Riverside Church in New York City. Through a series of panels, break-out sessions, workshops, and presentations, Face to Face unites arts administrators, teaching artists, school personnel, parents, and representatives of community-based organizations to discuss changes, challenges, and opportunities in the field of arts-in-education.

Members of the arts-in-education community will provide updated information on funding initiatives pertinent to New York State and the entire nation, and will address issues important to the field such as assessment, sustainability, and professional development. Several speakers will address the conference, and there will also be a résumé writing session, and “Art Alike” sessions focusing on professional renewal.

For more information on how to participate in Face to Face, call the coordinator at 212.642.5979.

The Center for Arts Education’s Parents as Arts Partners Grant

The Center for Arts Education’s (CAE) 2004-5 Parents as Arts Partners (PAAP) Grant Program awards grants of up to $3,000 each to New York City public schools. PAAP funds collaborations between schools and parents with the intent to support interactive arts education activities. CAE’s goal is to encourage parents to support arts education in New York City’s public schools.

Schools receiving previous grants have developed proposals for partnerships with arts organizations, cultural institutions, community-based organizations, colleges, and universities for the creation of arts education programs promoting the improvement of schools through the arts. The deadline for the Intent to Apply form is October 22, and the grant application is due November 3. For more information on how to apply, visit www.cae-nyc.org.

art$TART

art$TART makes grants of up to $2,500 to public and private pre-K through 12 schools in New York State’s Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Onondaga, and St. Lawrence counties. Grants are given for the partnership of schools with local artists and cultural organizations for the purpose of integrating the arts across the curricula of all grade levels.

Schools must provide matching funds in a combination of cash and in-kind resources. Matches may come from parent-teacher organizations, fundraisers, district professional development budgets, pre-existing programs, or federal and social programs.

Art$TART offers grantwriting sessions that are mandatory for applicants. The application deadline is October 29. For complete information on how to apply, visit .
