Shelley Eshkar, Riverbed Hand-Drawn Spaces
Shelley Eshkar is a multimedia artist and experimental animator who has been a key visual and conceptual collaborator with Riverbed for the last 3 years. "Hand-Drawn Spaces" is a virtual hand-drawn world he and Paul Kaiser have long been obsessed with realizing. Eshkar received a B.F.A. from the Cooper Union School of Art, where he was first exposed to modern dance, watching performances by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. It is with great fortune and pride that he now finds himself their collaborator, designing new bodies and environments for them as they choreograph in the new realm. Eshkar has recently initiated a project entitled, "Motion Alphabets," at his alma mater, where he has been appointed a Fellow. This exhibition and monograph will plot new directions for virtual performance, emergent narrative, and time-based art in the digital multimedia. "Hand- drawn Spaces" premieres at the Electronic Theatre of the SIGGRAPH conference this summer and the Wexner Center for the Arts in the fall. The Bill T. Jones virtual performance will premiere at Cooper Union in winter 1999. |
