Goodman, Carl, Curator of Digital Media, American Museum of the Moving
Image New Media As Tomorrow's Old Media
Carl Goodman is Curator of Digital Media at the American Museum of the Moving Image, where he has overseen the Museum's use, production, and study of computer-based media since 1993. Carl supervised the development of all original computer-based interactive environments in "Behind the Screen," the Museum's acclaimed 10,000 square-foot exhibition on the craft of motion picture and television production. A traveling version of the exhibition, funded in part by a $1.3 million grant from the National Science Foundation, will embark on a three year tour in the United States and Europe beginning January 1999. Carl also organizes and hosts a continuing seminar series at the Museum on the creative aspects of digital media, and organizes exhibits of digital media, including the current video arcade game exhibition "Computer Space 98." Launched this spring, the Museum's website will take AMMI's unique focus onto the Internet. Carl has also organized several recent music and technology performance series' outside of AMMI, in locations such as the World Financial Center Winter Garden and the Brooklyn Anchorage. Carl serves on the Board of Directors of Creative Time, Harvestworks Digital Media Arts, and NYC ACM/SIGGRAPH. |
