Casting the Net: Museum Education and Scholarship

In September 1995, Myles Gordon was appointed Director of the American Museum of Natural History’s Education Department. As such, he is responsible for a broad range and ambitious educational agenda within the Museum; to engage and encourage the curiosity and learning of all visitors to the Museum, to serve as an educational and cultural resource for the families and communities of New York City, to promote student learning and the professional development of teachers in the New York City Public Schools, and to extend the impact of the Museum beyond its walls through a program of national and international outreach. Prior to joining the Museum staff, he served for eight years as Senior Vice President for Education Development Center and Director for the Center for Learning, Teaching, and Technology. He brings to the Museum over 25 years of experience in the design and development of innovative education programs and materials, using a range of technolgies, for a wide range of audiences and a deep personal commitment to advancing the Museum's role in public education and science literacy on a local, national, and international level. He is an advisory board member of The Annenberg/CPB Guide to Mathematics and Science Reform, the Collaboration for Equity: Women in Science, AAAS, the Teacher Education Leadership Institute Project, among others, and has served as a consultant to The Corporation for Public Broadcasting Regional Training Project, The Boston Public Schools, Educational Technology Center/Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Kodaly Musical Training Institute. He holds a B.A. in Politics 1970 Brandeis University Waltham, MA.
