10:00-11:45am Opening Plenary: The Arts In a Digital Age
For some members of the arts community, working with digital technology is a foray along a new path, with the excitement and apprehension any such journey entails. For others, engagement with these tools has been at the center of their work for decades. Joan Shigekawa, Associate Director for Arts and Humanities at the Rockefeller Foundation, and Steven Johnson, cofounder and Editor-in-chief, FEED Magazine, will share their experiences and explore the implications of working in the arts at the start of the digital age. They will be joined by internationally acclaimed electronic artist Steina Vasulka, who will perform.

8:00-9:30pm Living Inside Design

Dr. Thomas Middlehoff, BMG Entertainment, will speak followed by Avant-garde composer Mikel Rouse presenting, "Living Inside Design," a solo performance with digital films by Cliff Baldwin.

A cross-section of attendees - artists, arts organization staff, funders and business partners - were asked to act as observers for the duration for the conference. They will share their observations about the impact of the conference, both from a personal perspective and as a member of the larger arts and cultural community. The observers will suggest next steps for actions that will help to advance our common interests and concerns. James Bower, Head of Institutional Relations for the Getty Information Institute; Carol Kinne, interdisciplinary artist and Colgate University faculty member; Susie Nam, Deputy Editor of the New York Times on America Online; and Charlie Baisney Rivera, photographer and executive director of En Foco.
