Work Sample ReviewWhat is a Work Sample Review?
A Unique Tool from NYFA
The Work Sample Review recreates NYFA’s Artists’ Fellowships panel process, giving participants a behind-the-scenes view of NYFA's professional artistic review panels. The Review provides valuable insight into the selection process, to strengthening applicants submission materials for funding, residencies and exhibition opportunities. Artists submit images or other creative content through provided application guidelines and portal, and during the Review session, receive feedback on their work presentations, artist statement and work samples. Evaluation is provided by staff from NYFA Fellowships and Learning departments along with guest arts professionals.
How does it work?
Participants prepare and submit digital applications online, including work samples, resumes and artist statements, using a similar interface to that which is used for the NYFA Artists' Fellowship. Then, NYFA staff will provide critical and constructive feedback when your group or class comes our offices (Review can also take place off-site) to view their submissions in the context of a live-jury panel.
Who are Work Sample Reviews for?
NYFA Work Sample Reviews are a powerful component of any program or syllabus, and have already been implemented in graduate, undergraduate and certificate programs as well as independent organizations across the country and internationally. Participants in varying disciplines, including visual and time-based art, will benefit from this invaluable experience.
