2005 Inspiration Awards It was a perfect spring evening when friends and supporters gathered at The Ritz-Carlton, Battery Park as NYFA presented its 2005 Inspiration Awards. Awards were given to philanthropist Mark Golden of the Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts, Inc.; Brooklyn-based multi-disciplinary artist Brian Alfred; and international communications giant Nokia for its “Connect to Art” program.
This year’s benefit was chaired by Anita Durst, NYFA Trustee and Artistic Director of chashama. Lucy Tower Funke, Director of the Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts, was co-chair. During cocktails, guests enjoyed electronic music composed by Brian Alfred and other collaborators. Guests were also allowed a peek into the ballroom at the three-dimensional art “centerpieces” donated by NYFA Fellows - Desirée Alvarez, Andrea Arroyo, Carlos Ancalmo, Susan Spencer Crowe, Steve Currie, Arturo Domantay, John DeFazio, Elizabeth Duffy, Kathy Erteman, Anita Glesta, Yoko Inoue, McKendree Key, Linda Lee, James Makins, Sandra Osip, Victoria Palermo, Julie Peppito, Miriam Schaer, Arlene Shechet, Dread Scott, Analia Segal, Leigh Li-Yun Wen, and Arnold P. Zimmerman.
During dessert, Ted Berger, NYFA Executive Director, announced that at each table, one lone orange ribbon marked the lucky guest who would win the donated centerpiece. This sent the thus far composed crowd into an excited search for the ribbon. Proceeds raised from the evening benefit NYFA’s general operations.
