Spring 2010 MARK:
Business of Art for NY State

MARK is the New York Foundation for the Arts'(NYFA) new statewide six-month program for visual artists who want a unique opportunity for individualized focus on the professional side of their creative practice. MARK is designed to address the concerns of artists living outside of New York City while providing them with a new network statewide. Participating artists can expect MARK to spark goals and help to define concrete steps while providing individual and group feedback on how to better present yourself.

What will the MARK Program include?
- Focus on strategies for expanding your visibility as an artist.
- Curriculum emphasizes goal setting and includes using the internet effectively, strengthening grant or project applications, improving writing and speaking about your work and identifying exhibition opportunities.
- Between seminars, artists will be assigned projects related to their specific goals.
- Individual feedback given to all participants.

What is the MARK schedule and where is it held?
- MARK runs from January to June 2010.
- Four monthly seminars are held throughout New York State at partnering regional arts organizations across NY State, artists should apply to participate in the region closest to them.
- Groups of 10-12 artists will be selected for each region of New York State.

Application Deadline:
Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 5pm.
Please note all materials need to be received by NYFA at that time.

Program Fee: $100 per person
There is no fee to apply. If accepted in to the program there is a one-time fee of $100 per artist participating.

Please note there is not a New York City site for MARK. The program's focus is on artists who do not live in the 5 boroughs.

Information Sessions Schedule:
The MARK info session will outline the program, go over the application and provide additional information about the NYFA's other programs for artists.
Info Sessions are free and open to the public.

Monday, October 26, 6pm at The Arts Center of the Capital Region, Troy
Tuesday, October 27, 7pm at Hallwalls, Buffalo
Wednesday, October 28, 5:30pm with Cultural Resources Council, Syracuse
Please note the Syracuse meeting will be held The Warehouse located at 350 West Fayette Street in the Community Art Wing
Wednesday, November 4, 5:30pm at the East End Arts Council, Riverhead
Tuesday, November 10, 6pm at the Women's Studio Workshop, Rosendale
