PANELISTS:
Chanel Kennebrew, Artist and founder of www.junkprints.com
Chanel Kennebrew is an artist from Inglewood, CA. Being a child of a musician father and fashion designer mother, she adopted both parent's appreciation for design and music from an early age. In 2000 she pursued a BFA in Toronto, Canada. While studying in Toronto she was able to cut her design teeth by working with local musicians, stores and print publications doing freelance graphic design and photography. It was through this work she gained valuable experience in creating logotypes, advertising, packaging and illustrations. Chanel relocated to Brooklyn, NY in 2005, to work as Art Director at Fredflare.com. Chanel currently does freelance illustration and runs www.junkprints.com, a creative experiment focusing on using art as a catalyst to explore and maintain local economies through the design, manufacturing, and distribution of clothing and accessories.
Hidemi Takagi, Visual Artist - www.hidemitakagi.com
Born in Kyoto, Japan. Moved to New York in 1997. Currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Takagi's work reflects the difference between her previous romantic American fantasy and what she saw and experienced when she moved here in 1997. She immediately struggled with the cultural difference between Japan and America where races intermingle - each with their own traditional background and point of view. Through the exposure to constant diversity I am able to see and embrace my own Japanese culture more readily, and find unique lenses into other cultures and world affairs.
Anowar Hossain, Painter - www.anowarhossain.com
Anowar comes from a family of artists, scholars and supporters of the arts and other cultural events. Growing up in Bangladesh, Anowar was strongly influenced by the vibrant Bengali creative community, which included the writer Ravindrath Tagore, film maker Satyajit Ray and musician Ravi Shankar. The young artist came to the U.S. in the 1980's and became involved with the flourishing New York art community through his art study and training at the School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League of New York. His works have been shown in many galleries and exhibitions both nationally and internationally and have won many awards. Anowar has sold many artworks and is represented in many private collections around the world, including the United States, England, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany. Anowar is very philosophically minded. He believes human life is fully intertwined with nature and the universe.
Matt Deleget, Artist & Social Media Expert – www.minusspace.org
Matthew Deleget is an abstract painter, curator, and writer. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, including solo and group exhibitions in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
