This workshop gives an overview of the legal options for immigrant artists seeking to pursue an artistic career in the United States. It covers basic immigration law and visa procedures in addition to unique legal options for artists. Presented by M. BIOS:
M .Audrey Carr, the Director of Immigrant Services at Legal Services, NYC, has practiced immigration law for more than ten years. Trained in International Business management, Ms. Carr worked for the United Nations Development Fund prior to attending law school. After earning a law degree, she practiced law in Minneapolis, in both a non-profit and a private law firm setting in the areas of political asylum, deportation, consular processing, Federal Court litigation and family-based immigration. Ms. Carr is a member of the New York State Bar, the Westchester Bar Association, and is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She speaks French fluently and is extensively involved in advocacy on immigration law and policy.
Christina Kan is an immigration attorney working at Teplen & Associates. Ms Kan has successfully assisted hundreds of clients in obtaining family-based green cards, employment-based green cards, citizenships, labor certifications, waivers and asylums. In addition, she also prepares numerous nonimmigrant visa petitions ranging from professionals, outstanding researchers, doctors, managers, executives, artists/ entertainers, athletes and persons of extraordinary ability.
Charles Printz is a former US Foreign Service Officer with more than 30 years of legal experience working with refugees and asylees. As Special Counsel to Teplen & Associates, he handles asylum, O-1 visas and J-1 visa waivers. Mr. Printz is also Deputy Director of Human Rights Advocates International and the organization's Representative to the United Nations.
