This panel discussion took place during the final weekend of NYFA Learning's MARK10 program in Syracuse, NY - June 2010.
MODERATOR: Courtney Rile is a curator and filmmaker based in Syracuse, NY. After earning a degree in Video Art from Syracuse University in 2004, Rile spent the next five years working with Light Work, Spark Video, ThINC’s Company Gallery and Delavan Art Gallery to archive, organize and curate exhibitions. In 2005, Rile organized the noteworthy exhibition "Clement Greenberg In Syracuse: Then & Now," highlighting Greenberg's role in the studios of five CNY artists.
PANELISTS: Anja Chávez is the Curator of Contemporary Art at The Warehouse Gallery and SUArt Galleries at Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Prior to this position she was at the Davis Museum and Cultural Center at Wellesley College, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Munich, and the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Bonn, and also studied at the Université Paris-Sorbonne IV and Ecole Normale Supérieure, Paris.
Erin Riley-Lopez Erin Riley-Lopez received her M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College (2005) and her B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College (2002). While a curator at The Bronx Museum of the Arts from 2005-2009 Erin curated collection based and annual Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) exhibitions. She curated an exhibition, There Goes My Hero, at The Center for Book Arts, New York in the fall of 2009. Erin is working on upcoming exhibitions at The Center for Worker Education, CUNY (2010), Cuchifritos, New York (2010), AIR Gallery (2011), and the Bronx River Art Center (2011).

Donna Lamb has been the Executive Director of the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center since 2000 where she has organized both juried and curated exhibitions featuring regional and nationally known artists. Prior to her work at the Schweinfurth Art Center, she was Head of the Art Transport Program at the Gallery Association of NYS from 1983-1999 where she coordinated the packing, shipping and insurance for thousands of works of art being shipped for exhibits at museums and galleries around the state.
She serves on the Board of the City of Auburn, Historic and Cultural Sites Commission, and is currently working with a group to create an Art & Cultural District in Auburn.
Mary E. Murray has been curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at MWPAI since September 1991, prior to which she was acting curator at the Weatherspoon Art Gallery, UNC-Greensboro. At MWPAI, Murray has organized more than forty exhibitions, including four collections-based touring shows with scholarly catalogs: Life Lines: American Master Drawings, 1788-1962 with Paul D. Schweizer; American 20th-Century Watercolors at the MWPAI; Collecting Modernism: European Masterworks from the MWPAI; and Auspicious Vision: Edward W. Root and American Modernism. Her recent exhibitions include “Substance and Light: Ten Sculptors Use Cameras,” (2006); “Dimensional Line: Recent Work by Sharon Louden and Creighton Michael,” (2004); “Resplendent: An Installation by Lynne Yamamoto,” (2003); and “Patrick Dougherty: Full Court Press,” (2001).
