New York Foundation for the Arts honored Deutsche Bank and Christo and Jeanne-Claude at its first annual Inspiration Awards in May 2004, at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Battery Park. The Inspiration Awards recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant achievements as artists or in support of artists. Christo and Jeanne-Claude have partnered on dozens of international site-specific projects. Their rich body of work spans from The Pont Neuf Wrapped, Paris (1975-1985), to The Umbrellas, Japan-U.S.A (1984-1991), to The Gates, Central Park, New York (1979-2005). With their unfaltering position to cover all project costs themselves, accepting no sponsors, they have created a body of work that is admired and respected world-wide. In recognition of their exceptional body of work and for their example of independence and creativity, NYFA proudly presented the 2004 Artist Inspiration Award to award Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Deutsche Bank was honored for its long commitment to culture, including contemporary artists. In assembling its corporate art collection of over 50,000 works worldwide, the Bank has patronized numerous artists and encouraged greater public understanding and enjoyment of contemporary art. The Bank also sponsors major art exhibitions and its innovative Art & Enterprise program supports organizations that use the arts as a catalyst for positive economic and social change in underdeveloped communities. Deutsche Bank is the largest corporate supporter of NYFA, contributing to Artists' Fellowships, internships, and a new initiative for craft artists entitled New York Creates. NYFA proudly presented the 2004 Corporate Inspiration Award to Deutsche Bank in recognition of its unfaltering commitment to contemporary artists. Pierre de Weck, Global Head of Private Wealth Management and member of the Group Executive Committee, accepted the award on behalf of Deutsche Bank.
