For July 7 Follow Up Event at Golden Artist Colors: Lodging for Golden Artist Colors, New Berlin, NY

I am not eligible for this location, are there any other locations planned?

NYFA is holding professional development for its Fellows in the New York City area and selected slots will be made available for artists living in Long Island City through an application process.

Application questions:

Am I able to save the online application and go back in to work on it?

No, we recommend printing out the online application and preparing all content in a word document so you can answer the questions in one session.

In my work samples should I present a range of work or specific selection?

With such a small work sample we ask that you focus in on one body of work, showing at least two pieces and up to four. We are interested in seeing what you most recently have been working on- the work samples should serve as a snapshot of what you are working on not a survey for your career.

With a video work sample- should I present the whole thing or just a segment?

If your video sample is very long, we recommend that you either give a short 30 sec sample of a crucial moment or attach a note with a cue point. Samples should be no longer than 20 minutes total

Program questions:

Why is the MARK Bootcamp program now open to artists from all disciplines instead of focusing on just visual artists?

With the success of the cross-disciplinary community of NYFA’s Artist as Entrepreneur Bootcamp, NYFA seeks to offer our professional development to artists of all disciplines including the visual arts.

What does partial scholarship mean and who is eligible?

NYFA will offer subsidies to artists who are unable to commute daily to the host partners and will be in need of overnight accommodation. As there are limited funds available, NYFA may follow up to request more information. Please select Yes on the online application form if you wish to be considered for an award.

What is the MARK curriculum?

MARK is the New York Foundation for the Arts’ (NYFA) program for artists based in New York State, (outside of the five boroughs of New York City) who want a unique opportunity for individualized focus on the professional and business side of their creative practice. MARK is designed to address the concerns of artists living outside of New York City while providing them with a new network statewide. Presented over one intensive weekend MARK’12 Bootcamp is a rigorous blend of formal classes, individualized training, networking and group interaction. Participating artists can expect MARK to spark goals and help to define concrete steps while providing individual and group feedback. Up to 40 artists will be selected for this location. Encouraging and fostering a community network of cross-disciplinary artists.

Will there be focus on the internet and the role of websites?

Yes, the 2012 curriculum will look at how the internet can be used to expand your audience. However, there will not be any instruction on building a website, instead it will focus on how to make an existing website more effective and using social networking to your advantage.

Is there a New York City location?

No, the MARK program is specifically for New York State artists not living in the 5 boroughs. If you are living within the 5 boroughs, NYFA offers regular programming in NYC through monthly individual consultations with Doctors Hours, professional development workshops and programs such as Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp.

If you have further questions please email Felicity Hogan at FHogan@nyfa.org.

This program is made possible with leadership support from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and funding from © Golden Artist Colors, Inc.
