MARK08 Artist's Quotes

Following are some quotes from artists who participated in MARK08.

"I loved meeting other artists, not only for the networking benefit, but also for the sense of support and creative camaraderie that was established. The MARK program gave me confidence. It helped me to have a better understanding of the art world and an understanding of how to approach accomplishing my goals. It helped me to think about my goals in a concrete way. It also opened an internal conversation about my beliefs, opinions, and values on art and on being an artist. It helped me to gain a sense of direction. The experience was intense, stimulating, and fulfilling. I feel very fortunate to have been selected to participate in this program. The experience was priceless."

"What I liked most is all the good information that was provided throughout the whole program. That information is very valuable: it lays out clearly the different paths/options one can take to achieve a goal. It would take a long time to compile all this info."

"The most important thing for me was meeting other artists. Before starting the MARK program i didn't know any local artist. Now I'm not alone anymore."

"The structure of the program gave me specific things to study and do. The educational component was vital as it then gave me the tools to move my career forward. Overall, it helped me find a place in the art world. The NYC weekend gave me a overview of the level of professionalism of the artists in the program. I was honored to be a part of this group."

"NYFA MARK opened many doors. From the packets I sent out during the program I received over ten shows for the end of 2008 and into 2009. Three of the opportunities are solo exhibitions in Toronto, San Fransisco and Las Vegas."

"The MARK program gave me the skills to write an excellent proposal for the NYFA SOS Grant, which I received in full. These funds have allowed me to complete a body of work that will be presented at my Ithaca debut at the Clinton House Artspace. I am hoping that this show will then lead to further opportunities. I also had interest in my work expressed by The West Collection after meeting them during the NYC retreat. I have been following up with the director and keeping him updated on new work. All the artists that I have met through this program have become an excellent resource. We keep each other informed about opportunities and I have had several offers from artists to use their equipment."
