MARK’12 BOOTCAMP

GUIDELINES and ELIGIBILITY

Who Can Apply?

  • Artists from the following counties closest to Syracuse are eligible: Cayuga, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Monroe, Oneida, Onondaga, Ontario, Oswego, Schuyler, Seneca, Tompkins, Wayne, Yates

    Artists from the following counties are also eligible: (if you are able to cover travel expenses and accommodations.) Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Chautauqua, Delaware, Erie, Genesee, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Niagara, Otsego, Orleans, Steuben, Tioga, Wyoming.

  • You must be 18 years of age or older

Who Cannot Apply?

  • A graduate or undergraduate student enrolled in any degree program at the time of application, including high school students

  • Artists who have been through the MARK Program
  • Artists residing within the 5 boroughs of New York City

HOW TO APPLY

The application is in two parts, an online component and work samples which should be emailed to bootcamp@nyfa.org

For the online portion of the application you will be asked to provide the following information.

We recommend you look over the application questions first and prepare your content in a word document so you can fill in the questions in one go.

  • Your Contact Details
  • The County you reside in
  • A Statement of Intent (100-250 Words)
  • Narrative Bio (100-300 Words)
  • An Artists (work) Statement (250 Words)
  • Work Sample Details (1-4 depending on discipline)

WORK SAMPLE INSTRUCTIONS:

You must submit WORK SAMPLES BY EMAIL in addition to this application. These must be received by the deadline for your application to be considered for selection.

Please list below the work samples that you are submitting with this application with the following specifications.

Each major discipline has specific instructions, please follow the guidelines for your category. All work samples should be submitted to bootcamp@nyfa.org by the deadline.

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Clearly label any files starting with your surname and number that relates to the work sample number as it appears on your online application (#1, 2, 3, 4) which should be in the order you wish the images/clips to be seen.

VISUAL ARTS: Please submit up to 4 images using the following specifications

  • Digital images must be in JPEG format and no larger than 1724 pixels, 72 dpi.
  • Number in the order you would like the images to be seen
  • File size: no larger than 1MB for each image
  • Slides will NOT be accepted

LITERARY ARTS: Please submit an example of your writing using the following specifications

  • Include the title of the work in the sample information
  • A brief, one paragraph summary of the plot to give context for the sample (if applicable).
  • Up to 5 pages from the work, double-spaced.
  • Literary work sample should be in Microsoft Word (.doc) or PDF format
  • Poetry - please provide up to 4 samples within 5 page limit in Microsoft Word (.doc) or PDF format

PERFORMING ARTS/VIDEO/FILM/PERFORMANCE/INTERDISCIPLINARY: Please submit up to 2 work samples and/or up to 2 digital images.

  • List the title of work, date of completion, total running time in your work sample
  • Digital images should be used only to demonstrate installation or configuration of a space. Do not include video stills. Please follow the above instructions for digital images.
  • Video and audio work samples must be no longer than 2 minutes in duration.
  • If you are submitting a longer work in full, please indicate the excerpt cue point in your work sample description with no longer than 20 minute samples.
  • Do not submit trailers.
  • Please keep in mind that submissions may be viewed on either a PC or a Mac.

  • For video and performances, please submit links to videos online (vimeo recommended).
  • If you do not have your works online, you can email your files in quicktime fomat (.mov) via online services such as www.sendspace.com or www.yousendit.com or www.wetransfer.com to bootcamp@nyfa.org

If you are using internet transfers and you do not receive a confirmation after 48 hours, please check via bootcamp@nyfa.org as these emails can go to junk mail.

Please submit only completed work, no work-in-progress accepted.

ALL WORK SAMPLE SUBMISSIONS MUST BE EMAILED TO bootcamp@nyfa.org BY THE DEADLINE.

Program Fee: $175 per person
There is no fee to apply to MARK. There is a one-time program fee of $175 per artist participating. The fee covers all seminars, materials, resources, and a copy of NYFA’s Book The Profitable Artist which is based on the Artist as Entrepreneur Boot Camp Program. Artists will be not asked to pay unless selected for the program.

Attendance for all sessions is mandatory. Please check if you are available on the dates prior to applying.

*Selected Partial Scholarships are available for artists traveling long distances and in need of accommodation
