Artist Statement: I have been examining the concept of architecture as a form of narrative, and in particular the way architectural space affects the lives lived within it. An architect's building plans are mostly a frozen ideal to be realized, but in my recent project-a series of large, digitally created home interiors-I seek to inject the 'model' home with the details left out of most architect's drawings-traces of the imperfect, vulnerable lives that will be led within these structures. No living figures are represented in my work, only the imprints of existence remain: a sliding door left ajar, a sleek lamp burning at night, a glass wall that reflects the blue glow of an unseen television screen. I have been delighted to have my digital interiors initially mistaken for traditional paintings and photographs.
