Sculpture
Artist Statement: Jean Blackburn brings her background as a painter into her work as a sculptor. Her pieces often represent the deterioration of everyday objects. "With the passage of time, some beliefs are whittled away. Others are reinforced. Differences between expectation and reality create gaps that must somehow be bridged. I manipulate everyday objects to undercut their physicality and suggest that they, like we, are in a process of redefinition. They are meant to echo domestic relationships and situations." In one piece, Trickle Down, Blackburn has set a table with plates, knives, spoons, and cups all made from pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The pieces are not in tact, but are instead scattered over the table, only partially resembling their complete identities.
