Artist Statement: During this year I have concentrated on writing a collection of short stories and while I am still far from finished, there are obvious signs of progress within my work.

A.M Homes’ most recent book is the memoir The Mistress’ Daughter, the story of the author being “found” by her biological family. She is also the author of the novels This Book Will Save Your Life, Music For Torching, The End of Alice, In a Country of Mothers, and Jack, as well as the short-story collections, Things You Should Know and The Safety of Objects, the travel memoir, Los Angeles: People, Places and The Castle on the Hill, and the artist's book Appendix A: Her work has been translated into over 15 languages and published in Vanity Fair, Harpers, The New Yorker, and The New York Times.
Holmes also writes essays on art which can be read regularly in Art Forum, Blind Spot, Granta, and Zoetrope. She has received numerous awards including Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and The Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at The New York Public Library, along with the Benjamin Franklin Award, and the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis.
Homes serves on the Presidents Council for Poets and Writers and is also on the Boards of Directors of Yaddo, The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, The Writers Room, and PEN-where she chairs both the membership committee and the Writers Fund.
