Artists' Fellowship - 1988
Poetry
Artist Statement: Alas, there seems little correlation between funds and creativity, although I did finish a long sequence of poems and began a longer poem. I also read a great amount.
More about the Artist:
Anne Lauterbach’s poetry has been described as mystical, shocking, and breathtaking. It has most recently been published in an anthology form in If In Time: Selected Poems 1975-2000. Lauterbach is the author of five collections of poetry and in 1993 she was a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship.
Tim Peterson wrote of her work for a 2002 edition of Rain Taxi:
“There is a constant tension in her work between the clean edge of socio-philosophical ideas and the messiness of their articulation in a language that sees through the confident, illusory transparency of newpaper-prose and other forms of mass communication.”
Lauterbach is a professor at the City College and Graduate Center; she is also head of the writing faculty in the MFA program at Bard College.
