Artists' Fellowship - 1985
Painting

Artist Statement:
I was working on paintings which I exhibited Feb. 1986 at Viario Diacono Gallery (Boston) and Mary Boone Gallery (New York).

More about the Artist:
Ross Bleckner’s oil paintings often depict flora, DNA-like globules and structures, and natural environments in glowing jewel tones that seem to be mysteriously lit from within. In 1996 Bleckner told Victor Hsieh in an interview: “There's a pulsating under the surface that I'm looking for.”

In 1995 Bleckner became the youngest artist ever to have a solo show at the Guggenheim Museum. He has also had solo and group exhibitions at museums and galleries around the world including SFMoMA, Contemporary Arts Museum, Stockholm Moderna Museet, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Works by Mr. Bleckner are also held public collections, including MoMA, MoCA, Astrup Fearnley, Museo National Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

Bleckner’s philanthropic work has supported many community organizations. Currently, Mr. Bleckner is president of Community Research Initiative on AIDS (CRIA), a non-profit community-based AIDS research and treatment education center.
