Artist Statement:
My films are serio-comic family melodramas written, shot and designed around personal locations from my family's past. These psychic environments serve as inspiration for my black comedies about childhood trauma, girlhood and family dysfunction. 'Family Remains' (1993), a half-hour fiction film, is my response to TV's divorced mom sitcom genre of the 1970s. Unlike TV's super-Moms, Lillian cannot make the transition from wife to breadwinner. Her strategies for survival are stuck in the past. While Lillian schemes for a new husband, her daughter Louise pines away for her long-lost dad.

Tamara Jenkins’ most recent film The Savages (2007) features Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman as siblings struggling to care for their aging father.

Nominated for two Oscars and the winner of Best Screenplay at the International Film Festival in Flanders, The Savages is a continued exploration of the themes of familial dysfunction that Jenkins finds most inspiring. She has also appeared as an actress in several independent films.
