Artist Statement:
I finished the first draft of a libretto for an opera to be produced in 1991 at BAM. I worked on the scripts and design for two films. "Juan Darien" was remounted. I am expanding my horizions as an artist as i have begun ot work in opera and film, in addition to the theater.

More about the Artist:
Julie Taymor's most recently directed Frida, which tells the story of 20th century Mexican painter Frida Kahlo played by Salma Hayek. The film has received critical acclaim and six Academy Award nominations. Taymor made her directorial debut with, Titus in 1999, starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange.

In 1998, Taymor became the first woman to ever win a Tony Award as a director for The Lion King. She received a MacArthur genius award in 1991.
