Artist Statement:
"For many years I have built tabletop models of matte-board, foamcore and plaster in my studio which I then photograph. I primarily exhibit the photographs, although I have also developed and shown related sculpture and installations on a much larger scale. Over the last two years, I have been doing a body of work based on the on the history of prison design since the late 18th century." The eerily-lit photographs of the stark white models, which include a view of a Venetian ghetto as well as prison interiors and exteriors, chillingly illuminate the prison mechanism, stripped to one functoinal aesthetic: control of natural light.
