Artists' Fellowship - 2000
Choreography

Artist Statement:
My work, which I call ‘Tap Fusion,’ combines the concepts and the full body movement of post-modern dance with the percusiveness of tap dance. My goal with this combination is to create work that has both those participating in the work and those watching it question their previous notions of what is dance and what is rhythm. Quo Tombo!, which is a Portuguese expression loosely translated as ‘What a fall!’, was a chance for me to try a different approach by having Brazilian tap dancer Cintia Chamecki start us off with set Brazilian rhythms. The solo The Road Less Traveled is an experimentation with gesture, traveling tap footwork and dramatic intent.
