Artists' Fellowship - 1990
Playwriting/Screenwriting

More about the Artist:
Suzan-Lori Parks’ most recent project was a commission to write 365 plays, one each day for a year. Lead by the Public Theater in New York City, from Nov 13, 2006 to Nov 12, 2007, the 365 Days/365 Plays National Festival presented the resulting work simultaneously across the country, creating the largest collaboration in the history of American theater. Including this project, Parks has written over 379 plays.

Parks' most recent full-length piece Ray Charles Live! premiered in Pasadena, CA in 2007 and is based on the life of Ray Charles. Parks’ play Topdog/Underdog won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2002. Her play Venus won an Obie in 1995-1996 as did her Imperceptible Mutabilities in the Third Kingdom (OBIE 1990).

Parks has also written screenplays, poetry, books, and essays. She is a 2001 MacArthur Grant recipient, and a 2000 Guggenheim Fellow.

TIME magazine recently named Suzan-Lori Parks one of the “100 Innovators for the Next New Wave.”
