More about the Artist:
Macmillan's first novel, Mama, about a mother of five who survives through humor, hope, and love, received a National Book Award by the Before Columbus Foundation. Her New York Times bestseller Waiting to Exhale was published in 1992 and later was made into a successful feature film starring Angela Bassett and Whitney Houston. Her most recent novel The Interruption of Everything is about a woman who has sacrificed her dreams for her family.

Macmillan was awarded a 1988 National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in literature, a 1986 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, and the Doubleday/Columbia University Literary Fellowship. She was a three-time fellow at Yaddo Artist Colony and The MacDowell Colony.
