Artist Statement: In his room-sized piece, Natura—Fragil, Alvarado constructs a monumental 180 foot-long wall that beckons one to approach and explore. The two-dimensional depictions of mythological figures and animals, executed in a paint-by-number style, are protected and hidden by strips of colorful paper that jut from the painted surface. "My artwork deals with nature, the vulnerability of our fragile environment, the world of mythology, and the transformation of mundane objects into organic forms. I borrow loosely from universal mythological images, capturing their essence in my own style and media. One of the strengths of this work lies in the power to transform ordinary materials into spaces simultaneously familiar and alien to contemplative reflection."
