NYFA Artists
Artists' Fellowship - 2000 (Lily Auchincloss Fellow)
Painting

Artist Statement:
My work is propelled by an interest in systems. Using activities and repetitive processes, such as counting and writing, I’ve been making images that merge notions of labor with time." Zawada’s canvases are covered with repetitious numbering which starts in straight lines and gradually begins to move out of alignment until great strings of numbers sway and scallop across the picture plane. The blue and red ballpoint ink softens into the white ground, resulting in gently diffused markings that create dream-like shapes and forms.
