NYFA Artists
Artists' Fellowship - 2001 (NYFA Prize Winner)
Film

Artist Statement:
I began my film Hybrid with the intention of trying to understand my grandfather and his historical importance within agriculture. Breaking the silence barrier that existed between Milford Beeghly and my family was the biggest challenge. Milford is a man comfortable with a non-communicative social existence. Aside from his passion for hybrid corn, Milford exists in his own world. Compelled by films of Robert Flagherty and Pare Lorentz, I became increasingly aware of the importance of cinematography in revealing the people and landscape in a non-conformist way.
