Summary of the Agency: The Coalition for Hispanic Family Services is a multi-service agency serving children and families of North Brooklyn. These include foster care, adoption, youth development, primary health care, mental health, HIV/AIDS case management, community health education and outreach, in-service internships and after school education. The Beacon Center for Arts & Leadership, a program of the Coalition, is An educational and recreational community center serving the youth and families in Bushwick, we provide opportunities to create, critically think, communicate, and problem solve through arts-based activities that build leadership skills and empower the individual. Community youth have access to free programming in mediums such as creative writing, visual arts, sports, media literacy, drama, music, yoga, and martial arts; in addition to free aerobics classes, a fitness room, and ESL classes for adults.
Summary of Position: The Zumba Instructor is responsible for leading hour-long Zumba classes at the Beacon Center for Arts & Leadership, a community center located in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The part-time position begins July 8-August 23 and begins again in mid-September to run through the school year. The summer hours are two days a week from 5-7, and school year hours are 6 hours a week, including 2 hours on Saturday. The scheduled evening and Saturday hours are to provide opportunities for aerobic exercise to a working community. The Zumba Instructor is responsible for taking attendance, ensuring that all students have turned in applications, and updating the adult community about Coalition-wide special events.
Qualifications: Zumba certified instructor experienced in enthusiastically leading large classrooms in an urban community setting. Zumba teachers who have developed their own routines are encouraged to apply. Spanish speakers are also encouraged to apply. Punctuality and interest in serving disadvantaged communities is a must. The hourly pay rate will be determined based on experience.
