Professorial Lecturer in Media/New Practices

The American University Department of Art, College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a one-year, full-time Professorial Lecturer term position in Media/New Practices beginning Fall 2013. Subject to renewal pending budgetary approval. The Department seeks a dedicated artist/teacher committed to expanded interdisciplinary learning, the application of new technologies, and the preparation of students for a diverse and rapidly changing global society. Position requirements: MFA or equivalent in media arts with a specialty in video or integrated electronic media, an active exhibition record; teaching experience preferred beyond the T.A. level.
Responsibilities: teach three courses per semester (beginning through advanced levels) of undergraduate/graduate media/new practices and one undergraduate class in a different discipline. Full time faculty members participate in graduate and undergraduate end of the semester critiques and do some service on program and departmental committees.
Please submit letter of intent, curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy, 20 samples of student work and 20 samples of own work. Work samples may be submitted on a CD/DVD or electronically via PDF/JPG files or via references to web pages or other online sites. If sending video of student and own work, total minutes must not exceed 15 minutes. Images must be in jpg format on disk formatted for MAC, approx. 5"x 7" and no larger than 200 dpi, materials will not be returned.
