RANSOM: Give us your word you want to be in this show!

Hello Friend!  Thanks for your interest in participating in Ransom. Here's the skinny:  

First, you agree to participate by clicking to the Submission Site (and paying the $10 fee). https://wayfarers.submittable.com/submit

After our application deadline (June 10th), we'll write a story that uses the same number of words as the number of committed participants - whether it's 50 or 5000. (You're welcome to represent more than one word, but you'll need to hit the ole' submit button and pay the ole' ten bucks for each word.)

Then, each committed participant will be "assigned" one of the words from the just-written story to represent (not to interpret); this show is all about the words themselves!

In the fall, Wayfarers will install all the words on the walls of our Brooklyn gallery in the order they appear in the narrative. We'll also host an exhibition opening for the participating artists that will double as a "release party" for the story. Only participants and gallery visitors will be ever be able to read the story in its entirety. (All participants will receive documentation of the show/story.)

Our thoughts about your word:

A variety of approaches to representing your word are welcome - drawing, painting, printmaking, doodling, photography, relief sculpture, collage, etc, but the final representation you send to Wayfarers must be:

    A clear and legible representation of the word itself.
    Easily wall hang-able with push pins, simple brads or tape                                                                
    (Absolutely no shelf-mounted works, no floor-standing pieces, and nothing that requires pedestals or wall anchors.)
    Not Fragile (no glass or ceramic works, but you could make the work out of a fragile material and then send us a photograph of it.)
    8.5" x 11" or smaller
    Mailed to us (or delivered) with return postage and any shipping/packing materials.

**Works can be but aren't required to be for sale. Wayfarers will retain 50% of any sales.

Key Deadlines and Dates:
June 10th - Application Deadline (You commit to participate.)  
July 29th - Word Assignment (We let you know what word you'll be dealing with.)  
September 16th - Word Submission (We receive your representation of the word.)  
November 8th - Release Party/ Exhibition Opening
