The 2013 NYFA Mentoring Program pairs immigrant artists from all disciplines with artist mentors who provide one-on-one support for their mentee. From July - September 2013, mentors will provide their mentee with broader access to the New York cultural landscape by sharing ideas, advice, resources and experiences.

Mentors will guide their mentee in achieving one or more specific goals, such as composing an artist statement, researching potential venues for showing their work, or completing a grant application. The Mentoring Program provides an opportunity to connect with other immigrant artists through group meetings including professional development workshops, events and informal gatherings.

This year we are pleased to announce that past alumni of the Mentoring Program will serve as Mentors. Their experience through previous participation in the program will inform their interaction and commitment to their mentee. Additionally, many of the mentors are immigrant artists who understand the challenges of sustaining one's art practice while navigating different cultural perspectives in the contemporary art world. Our mentors include artists from Europe, Asia, Central and South America.

Now in its 7th cycle after six years of success and growth, the Mentoring program has paired 101 mentees with 97 mentors. Each cycle proved to be an invaluable experience for mentees and mentors alike and artists often remain connected well beyond the program.

Guidelines and Eligibility:
This is a competitive program open to artists from all disciplines and free of charge to accepted participants. The Mentoring Program is supported by Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation and The New York Community Trust.

Eligibility Requirements:
-  Live within the New York Tri-State metropolitan area (NY, NJ, and CT).
-  Were born outside of the United States. (Those born in United States territories may apply).
-  Attended at least Kindergarten - 8th Grade schooling outside the United States.
-  Have been pursuing a career as an artist within the range of 1-10 years in the United States.
-  Are NOT currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate degree program.

Expectations for Mentees:
To set realistic goals and objectives, which are achievable within a short term program. To be available to communicate and meet with his/her Mentor. Attend group meetings at NYFA's offices in Brooklyn or host organizations based in New York City.

-  Inaugural Meeting: Wednesday, July 10th 4-8pm
-  Follow Up: Wednesday, July 24th 4-8pm
-  Alumni Meeting: Tuesday, September 10th 6- 8pm
-  Final Celebration: Wednesday, September 25th 4-8pm
