PLASTIC

Maria Hassabi

UNTITLED (work-in-progress title): a new live installation by Maria Hassabi. The work of choreographer and artist Maria Hassabi is rooted in the discourses of contemporary sculpture and theater. Hassabi’s durational choreographies confound the perception of time and the act of viewing in gallery, theater, and everyday contexts. Her new work scheduled to open at The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles on January 31, 2015 is the most recent follow-up to PREMIERE and INTERMISSION (both 2013), which reflect upon the conventions of display and the language surrounding performance-based work. This continuing body of work pursues an idea of stillness and its relation to the physical body. Performed by Maria Hassabi alongside Hristoula Harakas, Molly Lieber, and Oisín Monaghan, with an original sound score by Morten Norbye Halvorsen.
