Legacy Performing Arts, Inc. is dedicated to producing superior quality theater for and with elders. By connecting generations together through the production of live theater, Legacy Performing Arts seeks to change society’s perception of the aging and create viable work.
Legacy Performing Arts productions undergo a rigorous workshop process and are rehearsed for several weeks prior to performance. Actors are committed to both serving as volunteers and sharpening their artistic skills during career lulls typical of performing artists. This focus results in a polished finished product that comes as a stark contrast to typical senior facility performances: student orchestras and choirs or single performer cabarets.
Current Production: Angel Corps
Angel Corps weaves the music of the 1940s with true stories of WWII Army nurses. After hearing FDR’s Pearl Harbor speech, three adventurous nurses join the Women’s Army Corps, leaving their families and comfortable lives behind to support the “Boys in the Backroom.” Frances Slanger, a Yiddish immigrant wants nothing more than a “White Christmas,” Ruth Haskell, a tough-talking singer, finds her “Funny Valentine,” and Sally Hocutt learns how to “G.I. Jive ” despite being a spoiled debutante. While working in the front lines, the heroines take a “Sentimental Journey,” to laughs, a sense of purpose, and even love. Angel Corps toured New York City and Connecticut in spring 2010 and Texas in 2011 and is able, as are all Legacy Performing Arts’ productions, to play a wide range of venues, from Broadway-sized performing arts centers to senior center dining halls.
