This project is an effort to help increase the presence of contemporary country music in the NYC area through the music of local emerging country recording artist and songwriter Bailey Poteat.

I am a country music singer-songwriter currently residing in New York City. The project that I am leading is the recording and pressing of a full-length country music album of 10 original songs that I have written over the last few years as an emerging artist.

I have approached the making of this record in a very innovative way. I will be working with producers Keeley Bumford and Kati O'Toole and their critically acclaimed music production company 'Studio Pros' (http://studiopros.com) in Los Angeles on this album. Both Keeley and Kati have years of experience in the recording industry and will be working with me every step of the way to oversee this project as they help me select the best studio musicians to fill out the necessary instrumentation for the songs. I will also be working with their Grammy nominated recording engineer as the album tracks are mixed and mastered.

When I decided to make this record, I was told by friends and colleagues that I would not be able to get this project off the ground because “country music doesn’t work in NYC”. I was advised to move to another city where country music is more appreciated, yet after every time I play my music here in the city, I am greeted by someone who tells me how much they love country music and had no idea that people play it up here. Once this album is completed, I will be performing a series of free concerts through the New York Public Library and BAM in an effort to share my music with the public and help increase the presence of contemporary country music in NYC. I will also be giving a series of talkback sessions after each concert in order to share stories of my experiences as an artist and help educate people on what country music is really about.
One of my goals with this project is to encourage people to listen to full-length albums again. There is a reason for everything that is included in a body of work that an artist puts a record, from the order of each song on the disc, to the art they choose to include in the liner notes of the album. That is why I am carefully crafting this record to be something unique, adventurous and genuinely fun for my audience to listen to from start to finish.

Making this record has been a longtime dream of mine and is very much a labor of love. I truly believe there is an audience here who appreciates and enjoys American country music and I am very excited to share my art with the public.
