Sales Director

Contemporary art gallery in the dynamic Railyard Arts District in Santa Fe seeks an experienced sales director to oversee sales, manage revenues, build and cultivate a client base, collaborate with gallery leadership on developing marketing strategies, and aligning sales plans with market analyses. 

The ideal candidate has a proven record of primary and secondary artwork sales of 3-5 years in contemporary art, prints, design, jewelry/wearable art.  

Key Responsibilities: 

• Analyze gallery inventory and history of sales in order to devise sales strategies and identify target clientele 
• Build and grow the gallery client base 
• Drive sales for new exhibitions and generate sales through the production of pitch decks 
• Identify market opportunities and analyze trends; coordinate promotion of works 
• Strategize direct mail and digital outreach 
• Prepare monthly reports and projections; track metrics and analyze data to inform new sales strategies 
• Monitor and manage revenues; oversee accounting assets related to sales such as artist commissions report 
• Coordinate with Registrar: packing, pick-up, delivery, or shipment of works 

Qualifications: 

• 3-5 years of experience in sales at a gallery, art advisory firm, or auction house 
• Established client relationships with collectors, museum or foundation curators, art advisors; excellent writing/communication skills for sales presentations 
• Record of primary and secondary artwork sales 
• Ability to meet or exceed sales goals 
• Bachelor’s/master’s degree in business, marketing, art history, arts administration, or a related field  
• Proficiency in MS Office, Excel, and database management (Art Logic)  
• Polish, professionalism, and discretion in dealing with clients and developing long-term relationships 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in the workplace, with artists, and in the larger community of stakeholders 
• Experience in the market for contemporary prints and grasp of the market for contemporary Indigenous and Southwest regional art a plus
