Compensation: 

Playwrights Horizons offers a comprehensive benefits package including 10 days (two weeks) of vacation, four personal days, and 10 sick days. Assistant General Manager

Position Summary:

Playwrights Horizons, an award-winning Off-Broadway theater located in the heart of Manhattan, is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant General Manager who will play a vital role in supporting our General Manager in overseeing all aspects of producing a season of plays, as well as workshops and readings. The position plays a significant role interacting regularly with all departments to support all of PH’s programs and initiatives, and is a full-time non exempt position. This position works in person at the 42nd Street Theater Facility primarily.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Track contracts and process weekly payments for our actors, directors, designers, and other creative team members.
  • Process necessary payments and reporting for artist union benefits
  • Assist the General Management department with management of production financial reports, and tracking actual expenses.
  • Review box office settlements and prepare royalty reports for authors and directors.
  • Apply for music licensing and clearance when licensed music is needed in our shows
  • Oversee the application process and compiling of necessary records and documentation needed for the visa of a non resident artist. 
  • Serve as point person and the supervisor for all Front Of House staff, ensuring all personnel needed are booked based on the show schedule
  • Serve as a substitute company and house manager, when needed.
  • Work as a thought partner to the General Manager on the creation of season production calendars, contact sheets, and other internal documents as needed
  • Create and update a rental budget for our studios and theatre spaces located at our 42nd street location. 
  • Oversee the internal facilities booking and space management
  • Communicate the weekly building schedule to the Building Manager and the daily building schedule to the Office Coordinator
  • Oversee General Management Fellow
  • Work on and support Accessible Programming throughout the season, In close collaboration with the Director of Equity and Inclusion and Accessibility Coordinator
  • Proof the program and marketing materials for each production


Qualifications:

  • Significant prior experience and/or training in General or Company management
  • Proficient computer skills, comfortable using Slack, Zoom, Microsoft Office and the Google workspace with databases
  • Passionate about theater and eager to support and facilitate the production of new plays and musicals
  • Comfortable with a hybrid work environment, able to work at least 3 days per week in midtown Manhattan office, and able to work some nights and occasionally on weekends;
  • Knowledgeable of accessibility practices in theatres, and values diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience with Ticketing Systems and Databases, ideally familiarity in Tessitura 
  • Working knowledge of union agreements, contracts and payroll processing experience a plus
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Skilled at retaining new information quickly
  • Good judgment, demonstrated discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong communication skills with a desire to collaborate across departments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Sense of humor a plus
