Technical Designer
The Big New is looking for a full-time Technical Designer to join our growing team in Los Angeles. This position is ideal for a technically skilled and creatively driven designer with experience in digital modeling, fabrication workflows, and production development for contemporary art and architectural projects.
About the Company:
The Big New is a leading art fabrication company specializing in the design, fabrication, and installation of ambitious contemporary art and architectural projects. Working collaboratively with artists, designers, architects, developers, and institutions, we deliver cast and fabricated metal sculpture, integrated architectural artwork, and multidisciplinary fabrication projects across the United States. Our team engages in every phase of project delivery — from concept development and technical design through fabrication, logistics, and installation. We are seeking a highly organized, technically minded, and collaborative Technical Designer to join our growing Los Angeles team.
Position Summary:
The Technical Designer is responsible for developing artistic concepts into production-ready fabrication assets for cast and fabricated metal artworks. This role supports projects through all stages of technical development including CAD modelling, digital sculpting, 3D scanning, drawing package preparation, and fabrication coordination.
The position works closely with project managers, fabrication teams, foundries, and subcontractors to ensure artistic intent is successfully translated into achievable fabrication methodologies and installation-ready deliverables.
The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, technically proficient, and comfortable balancing creative problem-solving with practical production requirements in a fast-paced fabrication environment.
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the realization of significant public art and architectural projects on both a local and national scale.
