Founded in 1990, Artbook | D.A.P. is the world’s largest distributor of books on art, photography, architecture, design, and visual culture, working with more than 250 imprints ranging from major museums and international art publishers to small presses. Publisher clients include Damiani; DelMonico Books; the Guggenheim; Hatje Cantz; JRP|Editions; Karma; Lars Müller; MFA Boston; the Museum of Modern Art; Pace; Siglio; Skira; Steidl; Twin Palms Publishers; Valiz; and Walther König. In 2004 D.A.P. launched its retail division, Artbook, establishing permanent bookstores at New York’s MoMA PS1 and Hauser & Wirth; Wirth in Los Angeles, alongside regular pop-up bookstores at art and book fairs. D.A.P. also maintains a significant in-house publishing and co-publishing program, with recent titles including Mickalene Thomas: All About Love, The Unseen Saul Leiter and Young, Gifted and Black: A New Generation of Artists.
Artbook | D.A.P. is seeking an intern for Summer 2025. This role will provide an intimate, well-rounded view of the publishing industry as it relates to art books and give a hands-on experience with our titles. The role will require approximately 10 hours of work a week and run from the middle of June to the end of August. This is an in-person position and will require the intern to be present at our office in downtown Manhattan. Compensation will be in the form of a $1000 stipend and $500 worth of books from the D.A.P. list.
Responsibilities:
New Book Check In: Review the first advance copies of new art, photography, architecture, and design books sent to D.A.P. from museums and publishers around the world and note changes to the specifications, enter marketing information and disseminate samples to sales representatives.
Showroom Upkeep: create themed displays, incorporate new samples, remove out- of- print books and prepare for sales meetings.
Exhibition Schedule: create and maintain a list of exhibitions related to the artists on our list of books.
Trade Fair Support: organize fair supplies, including furniture rentals, giveaways, and visuals, place to-ship orders post book fair.
Website & Social Media Content: submit content for artbook.com and @artbook including themed title lists, book spotlights and event round ups.
Office Reception & Upkeep: greet visitors, answer phones, restock and organize supplies as needed.
Opportunity to attend and participate in either our weekly Marketing Meeting or our weekly Editorial Review.
Qualifications
Strong organizational skills.
Capable of prioritizing and executing multiple tasks.
Confidence when answering the phone and dealing with customers.
Able to work alone and collaboratively.
An interest in art, photography, architecture and design.
Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Excel.
