Jack Shainman Gallery seeks an organized and experienced individual to work alongside senior gallery staff in all aspects of day-to-day operations. The multifaceted position requires poised and professional demeanor, both in person and on the phone. An informed familiarity with the art world, strong writing and speaking skills, and an ability to work calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced demanding environment, while maintaining a high level of accuracy, are critical attributes of successful candidates.
Rigorous attention to detail and the ability to problem solve proactively apply to all tasks associated with the position, in particular assisting Directors with email correspondence, presentations, exhibition planning and travel. Gallery Assistants are expected to quickly discern, manage, and execute the nuances of these important gallery responsibilities alongside interfacing with most, if not all, gallery visitors daily.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting Directors with correspondence, client presentations and exhibition planning
- Acting as first-point-of-contact for gallery visitors at the front desk
- Answer frequent inbound telephone calls confidently and quickly
- Help prepare and send materials to collectors and curators
- Maintain multiple aspects of the gallery database
- Comfortable and quick to learn a diverse selection of digital responsibilities
- Maintain and organize office supplies and equipment
- Liaise with IT and telephone companies
- Assist with event planning and execution
- General administration
- Errands
Successful Gallery Assistants are highly motivated and hard working with the ability to handle whatever tasks are put before them efficiently and well. It is understood the position is very demanding. Professional conduct and a positive attitude are integral to success.
Candidates should have a minimum BA in Art History or related field and some administrative or gallery experience. Experience with Artlogic, or similar programs is ideal. Proficiency in Adobe programs is not required but welcome.
Salary range is $45,000 - $55,000, annually.
