Freelance Arts & Culture Publicist
Boutique PR firm specializing in arts and culture seeks an experienced freelance publicist to support a dynamic roster of clients, including artists, commercial galleries, and nonprofit art institutions. This role is ideal for a strategic and results-driven communicator with deep industry knowledge, strong media relationships, and the ability to balance high-level publicity efforts with some administrative tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute compelling media strategies for clients in the contemporary art and culture sectors, ensuring strong, sustained press coverage.
- Secure top-tier media placements, managing multiple campaigns from inception to completion in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
- Craft and refine press materials, including press releases, media alerts, briefing documents, and tailored pitches.
- Manage media outreach, proactively engaging journalists, editors, and producers across print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
- Monitor, compile, and share press coverage, maintaining detailed reporting for clients.
- Plan and oversee press events, including previews, media visits, and photo shoots.
- Handle press inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain and update targeted press lists, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including drafting client meeting agendas, scheduling, and calendar management.
- Participate in client meetings, taking comprehensive call notes and following up on key action items.
- Coordinate travel logistics for journalists and influencers, including booking flights, hotels, and dining arrangements for domestic and international trips.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in arts and culture communications, preferably at a public relations agency.
- Proven track record of securing high-impact media coverage across major art, culture, and lifestyle outlets.
- Strong relationships with journalists and editors, with an ability to craft tailored, compelling pitches.
- Deep knowledge of the art world and cultural landscape, with a keen understanding of media trends.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a sharp eye for storytelling and press materials.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple clients and deadlines with precision.
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to balance strategic publicity work with necessary administrative tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
- Fluency in French is a plus.
- Experience with social media strategy and content development is a plus.
