Harvestworks, a small nonprofit arts organization founded in 1977, seeks a collaborative and experienced Executive Director to lead the organization’s next chapter of artistic and organizational growth.
Based in New York City, Harvestworks supports artists working across sound, media art, performance, immersive technologies, and interdisciplinary creative practice. Through residencies, commissions, educational programs, technical support, and public presentations, Harvestworks helps artists explore innovative uses of technology while expanding access to creative tools and resources.
The Executive Director will report to the Board of Directors and oversee strategic planning, fundraising, financial management, operations, staffing, and external partnerships. This role requires a thoughtful leader who can balance organizational sustainability with an artist-centered mission and collaborative culture.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading organizational strategy and operations
• Supporting fundraising, grants, donor relations, and partnerships
• Managing budgets, financial reporting, and administrative systems
• Supervising staff, interns, and contractors
• Strengthening communications, public visibility, and community engagement
• Building relationships with artists, funders, and cultural partners
Preferred qualifications include leadership experience in arts, nonprofit, educational, or interdisciplinary organizations; strong communication and fundraising skills; financial and operational management experience; and an interest in technology-based artistic practices and emerging media.
We recognize that candidates may bring different combinations of professional, artistic, community-based, and lived experience. Applicants do not need to meet every qualification listed to apply. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
Salary: $70,000. Flexible scheduling and hybrid work options may be available.
Harvestworks is committed to building an inclusive and equitable workplace and encourages applications from people from historically underrepresented communities in the arts and technology sectors. Reasonable accommodations are available throughout the hiring process upon request.
