Art Handler

Uprise Art is seeking a part-time art handler to pack artwork for outbound shipments, install gallery exhibitions, make local deliveries and/or installations for collectors, and pack and store artwork on-site. 

SKILLS:

• 2+ years art handling experience
• BA or BFA in studio art or related field preferred, but not required
• Familiar with packing artwork in multiple ways, such as shadowboxes, crate pack outs, and cardboard slip casing
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic. A team player who works well with others and also independently
• Attention to detail, ability to prioritize assignments using task management software, strong organizational skills
• Computer knowledge including: Google for Business (Google Workspace Apps), navigating inventory management systems, basic experience with spreadsheets

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Handle, pack, and ship artwork in accordance with industry standards and practices
• Accurately complete all packing projects on time, and ensure that each item, package, crate and shipment is labeled accurately and appropriately
• Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure order shipments meet deadlines
• Work closely with the Registrar to ensure all artwork for exhibitions and in gallery storage are packed safely and documented 
• Transport small artwork via ride-share vehicle (no license or insurance needed) to collectors and/or install works. This is for small and local projects only. Large artwork installations and transportation is outsourced to third party installers
• Pull artwork from storage for artwork viewings and re-packing and storing artwork afterward
• Install and deinstall exhibitions at the gallery and at art fairs

This is a part-time position (12 hours per week to start) for applicants who are based in NYC and able to work from Uprise Art in Chinatown. The starting date for this position is the week of August 4, 2025.
