D-HAENE STUDIO, a Brooklyn-based ceramic design and art studio founded by artist Jane Yang D’Haene, is seeking a passionate part-time Advanced Wheel Thrower who is eager to work with clay. The ideal candidate will have experience in ceramics and fabrication, a keen eye for detail, excellent time management skills, and strong communication abilities. This exciting hands-on role offers the opportunity to see ceramics production from start to finish.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create high-quality ceramic products using advanced wheel throwing techniques.
- Prepare and assemble production ceramics, ensuring consistent quality and precise measurements.
- Mix and apply ceramic glazes, demonstrating good knowledge of glaze composition and techniques.
- Collaborate within the fabrication department and cross-functionally as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring tools and materials are properly stored.
- Participate in quality control checks to ensure high standards are met.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the throwing and glazing processes.
- Contribute to the overall creative direction of our projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of experience working with wheel throwing and a deep understanding of ceramic materials.
- Strong knowledge in ceramic glaze mixing and application.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Strong interest in the field of ceramics.
- Ability to communicate effectively within a team.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs of clay without assistance.
- Strong knowledge of safety protocols.
- Excellent problem-solver and self-reliant.
Position Details:
- Part-time: Flexible hours based on studio needs, with options for long-term or short-term commitments.
