Description
Aurora Lampworks, a Brooklyn-based lighting studio specializing in the restoration, replication, and custom fabrication of lighting fixtures, is seeking experienced Assistant Project Manager (APM). The APM works under the supervision of the Principal and Project Managers and assists them in estimating and managing assigned projects. The ideal candidate would have a background in preservation academically and/or in the field. This position offers an opportunity to work on unique and challenging projects. Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparing new proposals. This includes:
- Monitoring relevant email accounts for new proposal requests.
- Gathering and organizing information related to new proposal requests in both digital and physical folders.
- Assessing proposal requests to determine whether additional information is needed and corresponding with potential clients to gather that information.
- Reviewing proposal requests with the Principal and/or Project Managers to develop scope of work and pricing.
- Drafting proposals for review with the Project Managers and Principal, and sending proposals to Clients for review and approval.
- Assist Project Managers and Principal on assigned projects, including:
- Coordinating shipment of lighting fixtures. Receiving, unpacking, packing, and documenting the condition of lighting fixtures.
- Developing, maintaining, and distributing project documentation such as photos, condition reports, work orders, RFIs, and purchase orders.
- Coordinating with vendors and subcontractors.
- Placing orders for materials and parts.
- Developing, documenting, and coordinating project mockups.
- Attending meetings, taking notes, and maintaining project digital and physical project records.
- Managing and/or coordinating technicians in the studio and in the field.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in the field of project management, preferably in the lighting, historic preservation, design or construction fields.
- Background in the restoration and conservation of objects or closely related fields like archeology, art history, decorative painting and finishes, or architectural conservation or maintenance.
- Understanding of various fabrication, machining, assembly, and finishing tools, means and methods. Familiarity with electrical wiring is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity and proficiency with Project Management Systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Adobe Suite programs. Proficiency with drafting programs, like AutoCad or Rhino is a plus but not required.
- Be able to move as much as 50lbs, periodically.
Desired Qualities:
- Eagerness to work in and support a shop that prioritizes museum grade restoration/conservation.
- Comfort working with your hands and enthusiasm for learning new techniques.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented.
- Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability to different project requirements.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 40 is not required, but a plus.
