DFI Resources is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and hard-working Independent Contractor responsible for providing high-level logistical and manual support to a private estate management company.
This independent art contractor will assist the Art Team in the meticulous care, maintenance, and installation/de-installation of a privately-owned art collection as well as in the care of high-end furnishings and finishes.
Qualified candidates will be extremely detail-orientated, highly organized, able to handle a high level of volume, complexity, and work well within time sensitive deadlines and privacy standards.
DESCRIPTION
Position reports to management of the Art Team and works with contracted conservators and specialists. Duties will include proper handling, using the appropriate methods for packing, collection, delivery and installation of art objects, fragile and artistic material. Duties will also include the proper maintenance, cleaning, and conservation of all relevant objects and finishes. This position will also assist other departments as needed in the care and maintenance of property assets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Installation, de-installation, cleaning, and maintenance of artwork, furniture, design objects, and special architectural finishes
• Conduct site visits and onsite surveys
• Monitor, maintain, and adhere to a daily schedule as set forth by Managers, being flexible enough to multi-task and change priorities easily
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment onsite and in vehicles
• Maintain confidentiality of clients’ personal property and privacy
· Responds to incident reports related to collection items and communicates to Managers
· Communicates incidents and/or emergencies to management
· Responsible for organizing supplies storage
· Responsible for cleaning work areas such as workshop, spray booth, and supply storage rooms
· Responsible for cleaning and maintaining on-site art storage
· Assists the art department and contracted conservators with documenting the condition of collection items on exhibit in written and photographic formats
· Assists the art department and contracted conservators with environmental monitoring and pest management projects for properties
· Assists with constructing storage mounts and re-housing art and artifacts for storage
· Assists various departments with special projects related to events, maintenance, and storage of clients’ properties and assets
· Ad hoc projects as needed
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, walking, and in flexible positions both indoors and outdoors, ranging in temperatures from 40-105F
• Ability to tolerate insects, pests and other wildlife
• Ability to lift and carry materials weighing 50lbs., including ladders
• Capacity to work comfortably on ladders & scaffolding
• Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, dust masks, gloves, and Tyvek suits and boots under demanding physical conditions for extended periods
• Ability to operate the organization’s motor vehicles; golf carts, wash carts, aerial lift, and trailer towing
• Must be flexible to work additional hours as needed
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma required; college degree preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working as an art handler in a gallery and/or museum, shipping company environment, high end building/construction environment, design/fabrication studio, or high-end property management company (2-4 years preferred)
• Ability to efficiently wrap/pack sensitive and valuable artwork, furniture, and other objects
• Possess a team player mindset and have the ability to work well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of and experience with a variety of gallery and museum crating and packing techniques
• Knowledge and experience with art installation techniques
• Capacity to work in a customer-focused environment (gallery/museum/corporate office/private residence)
• Manual dexterity, consistency, and attention to accuracy and detail
• Basic-to-advanced carpentry and metal-working skills
• Must pass background check and sign an NDA for client privacy protection
• Must possess a current driver’s license
