dieFirma, an artist-run contemporary art gallery, is seeking a part-time Gallery Attendant, starting Sept. 24, 2025 through March 2026 with possible extension. In addition to offering physical space and market infrastructure, dieFirma collaborates with artists to enable them to take risks and explore new directions.
16 hours per week: Saturdays 10:00am-6:00pm (mandatory), 2 additional shifts of 4 hours each, flexible days (Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday). Occasional evening shifts for openings and events.
Our ideal candidate is extremely reliable and self-confident. A background in Art History is preferred, but a curiosity about art is a requirement. After a few weeks of training, there will be times when our Attendant will be on their own in the gallery and will need to be comfortable to speak professionally about the art on exhibit. $18-$22 an hour commensurate with experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcoming and Orienting Visitors: Greet visitors, answer initial questions, and provide directions or information about the gallery layout. Ensure that visitors are respectful of the art. Liaise with Gallery staff when additional support and information is needed.
- Providing Information: Share details about current exhibitions, artists, and the gallery’s mission.
- Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere: Make visitors feel comfortable and engaged with the art.
- Monitoring and Maintaining the Space: Ensure that the gallery is clean, safe, and well-presented, and sometimes assist with basic maintenance tasks.
- Administrative Support: May assist with data entry, visitor information collection, or other light administrative duties.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Being friendly approachable, and able to engage with a diverse range of visitors is crucial. Strong interpersonal skills are important. Discretion and respectful comportment are a must.
- Knowledge of Art: A basic understanding of art and art history is beneficial.
- Ability to Work Independently and as Part of a Team: Attendant will often work on their own in the gallery but will also need to collaborate with other staff.
- Basic Computer Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office or Google Suite, as well as data entry may be required.
