About:

The Rethinking Residencies working group is a consortium of diverse nonprofit visual arts residency programs based in New York. Our collective mission is to support the practices of contemporary creators and to share their visionary work with the greater public. This summer, we are excited to host a paid internship opportunity aimed towards rising high school seniors, college freshmen, and college sophomores.


Candidates are invited to apply to one or more of the four Rethinking Residencies members hosting this program: International Studio & Curatorial Program; Laundromat Project; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; and Triangle Arts. Applications should be sent directly to organizations at the contact info below.


The successful applicants will partake in 12 week internships, and will receive stipends of $1,000/month. Throughout that time period, interns will engage in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the organizations, gain invaluable experience in non-profit administration while being introduced to a vast network of resident artists and arts professionals. The scopes of the roles will be determined by the applicants’ past experiences and/or expressed interests.


Qualifications:

Applicants must be rising high school seniors, college freshmen, or college sophomores. No previous experience is required, but demonstrated enthusiasm for a career in the arts is a must. Strong communication and organizational skills, multitasking, reliability, team player, Mac proficiency (Word and Excel), and basic Creative Suite knowledge are a plus.


Duration: 

Internship Dates: June–August, 2025

Internships are 12 weeks long, and require a minimum commitment of 16 hours (two days) per week. 


Compensation:

Interns will be provided with a stipend of $1,000/month, receiving a total of $3,000 over the course of the internship program.


About Rethinking Residencies

Initiated in 2014, Rethinking Residencies encompasses New York City’s largest arts residency programs alongside some of its smallest. Recognizing the power and potential growth in empathetic collaboration, the consortium was formed to share knowledge and resources while advocating for the importance of artist residencies as a core pillar of a healthy arts ecosystem. 

Rethinking Residencies institutions provide professional artists with time, space, opportunities, and community, and serve the public with free programming including exhibitions, open studios events, artist talks and public art projects. 


About International Studio & Curatorial Program

The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) is a not-for-profit, residency-based contemporary art center for emerging to mid-career artists and curators from around the world. Founded in 1994, ISCP has hosted over 1,800 artists and curators from more than 90 countries. ISCP’s mission is threefold: to support and enhance the professional development of emerging to mid-career artists and curators from around the world; to introduce New York audiences to exceptional international art practices; and to engage communities of Brooklyn and the New York City area through public programs that enrich the appreciation and understanding of contemporary art.

The Laundromat Project advances artists and neighbors as change agents in their own communities. We make sustained investments in growing a community of multiracial, multigenerational, and multidisciplinary artists and neighbors committed to societal change through artistic expression, community building, knowledge exchange, leadership development, and advocacy for social impact.

About Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC)

LMCC serves, connects, and makes space for artists and community. Since 1973, LMCC has been the champion for independent artists in New York City and the cultural life force of Lower Manhattan. Our mission is to create a fertile and nurturing environment for artists and arts groups, enlivening public spaces with free programs and providing leadership in cultural planning and advocacy. LMCC's Artist Residency programs respond directly to the immediate needs of the artistic community and promote the development of artistic work. These residencies are available to artists working in all disciplines via open-call applications. The studio spaces are located in temporarily donated spaces throughout Lower Manhattan and in our Arts Center at Governors Island.

About Triangle 

Triangle is a visual arts residency in New York founded in 1982, providing a life-changing

working environment for committed artists through studio-based opportunities to experiment and

create new work; shared community with other artists that lasts a lifetime; introduction of

curators and other experts to the work at crucial times; cultivation of new and diverse audiences

with public programs, such as open studios; and meaningful exposure to and interaction with

the surrounding Brooklyn community and the wider world.
