  • The salary for this position is $60,000–65,000. In addition, this position is eligible for the League's full range of benefits, including health insurance and 401(k) plans, as well as other fringe benefits offered through the Art Students League of New York. 
  • Schedule: This Content Specialist receives compensatory time-off for irregular hours worked, i.e. if there is an evening or weekend event, or a production that requires longer than 8-hour day. In addition, the Content Specialist is permitted to work remotely one day a week, schedule and workload permitting.

ABOUT THE ART STUDENTS LEAGUE 

 

The Art Students League of New York was founded in 1875 and remains an institution run by artists in support of artists. The League fulfills its mission by offering accessible, affordable, high-quality education and instruction in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, metal work and mixed media in the context of an Atelier system. There are no entrance requirements, degrees or set curriculum. Students come for a hands-on studio education accessible to anyone who truly aspires to develop as an artist, whether they seek to pursue a profession in the fine arts or are just beginning their artistic journey. Each month, students of all ages, backgrounds and skill levels study on-site at the League or through the League’s online class program. Many famous artists who have shaped the vocabulary of art worldwide have been instructors, lecturers, and students at the League. They include Georgia O'Keeffe, Romare Bearden, Jackson Pollock, Carmen Herrera, Robert Rauschenberg, Adrian Piper, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, James Rosenquist, and Ai-Weiwei, among many others. 



The CONTENT SPECIALIST reports to the DIRECTOR OF MARKETING and manages the organization’s social media channels, produces content for social media, and ensures that the League maintains a high level of engagement on social media and supports content capture at events.  

 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Conceptualize and produce content for the League’s social media channels, inclusive of creative concepting under the direction of the Director, shooting and editing stills and video under the direction of the Digital Communications Manager, creating graphics based using templates provided by the Graphic Designer, and writing public-facing copy in a tone and style consistent with the League’s editorial voice. 
  • Manage the League’s social media channels to maintain best practices, and a high level of engagement. 
  • Ensure that League events, exhibitions, classes, and workshops are adequately promoted on social media. 
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the League’s partners, staff, instructors, members, and students on social promotion and engagement. 
  • Take part in events, both for social media coverage and to help organize and manage content production as needed.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Skills and Competencies 

 

  • Proficiency with iPhone or equivalent smartphone capable of producing photo and video content suitable for press and archival use. 
  • Proficiency and comfort with social media tools, including Facebook/Meta, Instagram, Reddit, and TikTok. 
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills. 
  • Availability to work evenings and occasional weekends as required. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with League partners, students, instructors, staff, members, and community. 
  • Proficiency in small-scale video and photo production, including preparing, setting up, and operating portable audio and video equipment for shoots. 
  • Proficiency in post-production and video editing, including fluency in Premiere or Final Cut Pro. 
  • Ability to track analytics and provide growth reports. 
  • Desirable computer skills: macOS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut, mobile video editing tools. 
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the arts and a commitment to the mission of the Art Students League of New York. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to tactfully and diplomatically handle communications with stakeholders (staff, instructors, students, members, donors). 

 

Experience 

 

  • 1–2 years social media management and/or video production experience 
  • Experience working in education, arts, or other cultural nonprofit organizations is a plus. 
  • Experience with, interest in, or exposure to studio artmaking is a plus. 

 

EDUCATION 

 

  • B.A. preferred
